temporary heat

Temporary heat in Manhattan has its’ own unique challenges.  Diesel fuel has Fire Marshall implications, electric heat can be a problem since often power is not available in the quantities required and may be the wrong voltage, natural gas has pressure issues and exhaust fumes are a consideration.

steam heatMost buildings have steam heating systems, with the steam being provided either from a central boiler plant that is also used for absorption chillers, or, steam is provided by Con-Ed.  On Site Energy offers 20 ton air handlers, which can utilize a buildings existing steam or hot water infrastructure, avoiding all of the pitfalls of temporary electric, oil, or gas fired heaters.  20 ton air handlers are also very portable, being on heavy duty caster wheels, they fit in elevators and through standard doorways.  Finally, 20 ton air handlers use variable speed drives, allowing the air flow to be balanced with the building’s needs.

AH rentalsCase in point…the Waldorf Astoria hotel is of course a world famous landmark building, located on Park Avenue in New York City.  In the heart of New York City, any construction project taking place has challenges.  Generators are difficult to place, there is zero tolerance for fuel storage, and exhaust fumes simply are not allowed.  The Waldorf does however have a steam heating system, which was kept available during a major renovation.  On Site Energy’s 20 ton air handlers were rolled into place and running within 24 hours of delivery.  Even with doors constantly being opened for construction work, the 20 ton air handlers provided more than adequate amounts of heat for the project.  Since the air handlers do not burn any fossil fuel, no permits of any kind were required.

Many college and pharmaceutical campuses, sewage treatment plants, large train and subway stations, and large buildings have central physical plants which can utilize existing steam or hot water networks to provide temporary space heating.

Construction Cooling Solutions

The contractor’s first inclination was to rent a dehumidifier. After inspecting the site and discussing concerns with the general contractor, specialist Dennis French offered a comprehensive solution that would do more then just reduce the moisture content in the air. On Site Energy provided a 50 ton air conditioner rental to both cool the work area and provide humidity control at the construction site.

To power the temporary cooling equipment, On Site Energy brought in a 125 kW generator. When it comes to rental solutions, On Site is a full service operation. Air conditioningsystems need a duct network to move the air. On Site provided the 20” flexible duct system to pipe cool air throughout the construction site.

Chiller Rental Solutions Simplified

"Temporary Cooling Solutions"

Spring is a time for new beginnings, but for a New York law school, the balmy weather brought crisis to their door. Heading into the summer class season, the prestigious school found themselves without a chiller system. School officials contacted On Site Energy for help. The team of professionals from this comprehensive portable energy solution firm found the building offered some distinctive challenges.

The Obstacles

Initially, the school thought they would require a short-term rental chiller while repairs were in process. After evaluation of the damaged system, the problems grew. The New York law school would need a temporary cooling rental all summer until a replacement unit was ready.

On Site Energy faced some obstacles when they went to rescue the New York law school’s summer classes armed with a 170 ton chiller rental. Many New York buildings only offer 208 volt, 3-phase power. A portable chiller large enough to keep this building cool requires 480 volt, 3-phase power.

Chiller Rental

170 ton Chiller Rental

The Solution

On Site Energy is a full-service power & temperature control rental company. They were able to set up the 170 ton temporary chiller using a standalone transformer rental. The job of the transformer is to take the power from the building and convert it into useable energy. On Site also offers a generator in situations where the building power is not adaptable or adequate.

The setup required two 6” hoses and 16 cables to cross the city sidewalk, and stay there for the summer. The On Site Energy team put two sidewalk bridges in place to keep the area safe. The bridge system keeps power cable and hoses off the sidewalk so they were out of the way. Students and pedestrians would still be able to use the path around the building.

On Site is no stranger to emergencies like the New York law school faced. They offer a variety of portable energy products for power, cooling, and heating equipment with field specialists to assist in set-up and usage. The team at On Site Energy are the go to guys whether facing a natural disaster or equipment failure. With three branches on the East Coast and one in the Midwest, On Site Energy is there to provide portable equipment to aid in disaster recovery, planned shut down or repair work. On Site Energy is the rental provider that puts you in control of the environment with portable solutions.

shelter rentalBack in August I was fortunate enough to win a contest to be an extra in a music video for one of my favorite bands. It was quite an experience, but it could have been even better if the crew was better prepared. It was not only a warm evening as we sat outside for several hours, it was well over 100° inside a warehouse where the video was actually shot. I watched as an air conditioner unit was brought into the set and then less than an hour later brought back out.

Attempting to rock out to a song when you feel like you’re going to pass out from the heat just isn’t safe. Needless to say, there were hot, unhappy fans doing their best to give the band their all. It could have easily turned into a dangerous situation and that is why you need to rent heater and A/C units from reliable companies. The last thing you want is a rental breaking within the hour, either causing people to freeze or to pass out from heat exhaustion. The crew, the actors, or whoever is on set, they are relying on you for both their comfort and safety.

When you choose On Site Energy, you know you’re getting the best. Whether it be a rental heater, a utility shelter, or a mobile command center.

Keep Traffic Flowing with Arrow Boards

shelter rentalOh the dreaded site of an orange sign on the highway; it can only mean one thing…construction ahead! And we all know that means major delays because no one knows how to merge into another lane or people feel the need to rubberneck. It can be a real nuisance but construction is necessary so you don’t hit a giant pothole. At least warning signs can let you prepare ahead of time and, ideally, move traffic through the area a little bit quicker.

Although we’ve talked a lot about shelter rental and even how to kill bed bugs, On Site Energy provides a lot more services, including that bright arrow board I just mentioned. The panel size is 96” wide by 48” high, giving drivers are nice big warning sign that they’ll soon have to merge. The great aspect about this arrow board is that it is solar powered. There is no diesel generator required. It can operate on 12 volts DC but with the sun out, your workers can enjoy uninterrupted operation throughout the day. It’s twice as bright as others like it but uses 80% less energy. And don’t we all love doing what’s best for the environment?

Winter Weather Causes Tricky Situations

November 3rd, 2011 | Posted by MattC in Rentals | Shelter - (0 Comments)

Last winter the Northeast had suffered some pretty bad weather. We had feet of snow. Road blocks, power failures, car accidents, these problems are all unavoidable. And there are definitely places that got it worse than my neighborhood. Sure, people think, “Oh, summer is bad because of hurricane season,” but the truth is that dangerous conditions can occur in any season. Winter is by no means excluded, what with avalanches in the mountainous regions, railroad and building power grid failures, and snowstorms.

Should your town be hit by a storm or other problem you can have a disaster relief center deployed immediately upon request. Within 24 hours there should be a full mobile command center ready to tackle the neighborhood problems. These easy-to-pitch On Site energy rental tents are supplied with a PEACH unit so that you will get heat and energy as you work out a strategy to get your town back on its feet. It is a fully operation location to be used as a place for police, medical staff, and information technology services.

You can never be too safe. Should you need any other services like heaters for office buildings or schools, you can request those separately.  They come in different sizes to accommodate the space.

Bed bugs are a nuisance. They are nasty little creatures hoping to take a ride home with you. You will definitely want to take care if you suspect that bed bugs may have hitched a ride. You do not want to deal with the consequences of inviting them in for a meal.

In cold weather insects have this tendency to work themselves into our homes. It gets cold outside. Food gets scarce. A nice home with plenty of people sounds like the ideal vacation complete with meal plan for parasites like bed bugs. Should you think bed bugs may be on something you have with you, check it before entering. The only way to confirm they are there is by carefully inspecting each and every item. They like to stay in small, dark spots. Check pockets, flaps, and zipper folds because they are common places they reside.

Isolate all items in plastic bags. This includes clothing. Remember, heat kills bed bugs. If you want a clean and safe way to exterminate them, look into heater rentals.
